The injury to Jovana Radojevic lingers on for the Garden City Community volleyball squad. In its first match since losing the 6-foot-3 middle hitter at the Colby Tournament over the weekend, the Broncbusters lost in five games Wednesday at Lamar (Colo.) Community College (25-13, 23-25, 25-10, 22-25, 15-6).
"We player really bad," GCCC coach Nikola Petrovic said. "None of the players really played well. We were negative 10 percent all together in hitting in the five games. We had changed positions all around because Jovana Radojevic got injured last weekend and we just couldn't catch up and play those positions."
The Busters had just two days to practice their new positions before heading to Lamar following the Colby Tournament.
"We just worked on ball control and explained to the players how to work at those positions," Petrovic said. "Hopefully losing in five games may be an eye-opener for them. Even in in the fourth game we hit zero-percent and all the others we hit minus percent. I just felt it was a really bad performance for that night."
Garden City will have just one day of practice before traveling to Sterling, Colo. for a tournament at Northeastern Junior College. They will face Trinidad and McCook (Neb.) Community College on Friday then play No. 2 Western Nebraska and No. 11 Northeastern on Saturday.
"It will be a challenge for us because we beat both Trinidad and McCook, but we had Jovana when we did so it should be interesting to see how we can do without her against them," Petrovic said.
