Fresh off of a big win against Hutchinson three days before, the Garden City Community College Broncbusters began their final game of the regular season with Dodge City on Saturday as if they were going to make it an easy two in a row.

But the Conquistadors were not willing to go down without a fight. In the end, the Broncbusters did just enough to pick up an 81-75 Jayhawk Conference win at Perryman Athletic Complex.

The Broncbusters led for the majority of the first half, but with less than four minutes remaining suffered a blow when forward Tyrone Flemming went down with an ankle injury, taking him out for the rest of the game.

As the first half neared the end, the Conqs crept close, shrinking the deficit, then took the lead off of a jumper at the buzzer by Ty Patterson.

The Busters fought back early in the second half, evening up the score at 54 with 14:06 to go. After a 3-pointer by Jordan Ragan with just less than 13 minutes remaining, Garden City (19-10, 8-8) took the lead and held on from there.

"Our numbers were short because of injuries," Garden City Coach Kris Baumann said. "But Trevor Ottley and Blake Baird came out and did outstanding for us."

Ottley led the Busters in scoring with 20 points and grabbed six rebounds. Baird had 15 points, going 5-for-5 from the line and collecting eight rebounds.

"Blake has been waiting for a chance to play his game, and tonight he had his chance," Baumann said.

Five Busters scored in double digits. Corey Claitt scored 15 points and added six rebounds. Ragan added 14 points, including four 3-pointers, and Damien Young chipped in 12 points.

Patterson scored a game-high 26 points for the Conqs, hitting all six of his team's 3-pointers.

Nick Angelos scored 13 points for Dodge City, and Cory Perkins added 11.

The Busters begin Region VI play Wednesday when they travel to Neosho County.
