COLBY -- The Garden City Community College cross country team returned from Friday's meet at Colby with first and second place finishes. The men's squad claimed the team crown, while the women placed second in their portion of the competition.

"The kids ran really well and we just had a good trip," GCCC coach Dan Delgado said. "We had some runners who were running towards the back (at the Bob Timmons Invitational) that improved with showing some grit and determination. And that's something we've got to keep instilling in our kids."

Mohame Noor paced the men's team with his first place finish in a time of 26:06 over the 8-kilomter (4.8 miles) layout. The GCCC men had to other top-five finishers in Gabe Proctor in third with a time of 26:52.5 with Ter Diu one spot behind him with his time of 27:34.6.

Stefannie Erdman was the top Garden City female runner with a fifth place time of 20:51.7 in their 5-kilometer (3 miles). Margo McNutt finished right behind her with a time of 21:17.2.

"Obviously, based on Friday, we had very good week of practice and fatigue level was there, but the times were definitely good," Delgado said. "We started over on Saturday morning. We just need keep chipping away and try to put them in worst case scenarios and see how they react to it. Like Saturday, we got back late Friday night but were up and running at 8 a.m. So Friday we'll be running on tired legs and be beat up in Wichita."

Friday the cross country team will be running in the Friends Invitational in Goddard with the women scheduled to start at 7 p.m. and the men at 7:30 p.m.
