Garden City Community College men's basketball coach Kris Baumann and guard Richard Thomas have been selected to participate in the NJCAA All-Star game April 25 in Odessa, Texas. Baumann will coach the Red National team.
The honor to coach in the game was presented to Baumann after he led the Broncbusters to their first Region VI championship and appearance in the national tournament since 1956. The Busters ended the tournament with a sixth-place finish.
In his third-year as the head coach at Garden City, Baumann guided the Busters to a 25-13 record and he has an overall record of 55-45. The team Baumann will coach is made up of junior college sophomores from across the U.S.
Thomas was selected to the game finishing second on the Garden City team in scoring at 13.5 points a game, and he was second on the team with assists.
Thomas was one of two Busters named to the All-Region VI team, as his teammate Thomas Manzano was named the MVP.
Garden City assistant coach Mark Leslie will be Baumann's assistant in the game.
The selected Broncbusters will travel to Odessa a day before the game for a practice session and a banquet. ESPN televison analyst Jimmy Dykes will be the keynote speaker.
