The Garden City Community College baseball team swept ninth-ranked Yavapai College in Prescott, Ariz. in a doubleheader on Monday.
The Busters, ranked No. 21, took the first game 4-1 behind starting sophomore pitcher Wade Myatt, who threw six shutout innings. Reese McGraw came in to pick up the save.
Offensively, the Broncbusters (15-2) were boosted by Andrew Phelan, who hit his first home run of the season with a two-run shot in the seventh inning.
Game 2 was a pitchers dual in the second game as starter Erik Mattingly gave up one run over five innings as GCCC completed the sweep with a 2-1 victory. Joemar Melendez and McGraw pitched the final two innings to close out the Roughriders (18-10). McGraw picked up his second save of the day and ninth of the season.
Garden City was scheduled to play two seven inning games against Phoenix College today starting at 1 p.m. and meet Paradise Valley in a doubleheader on Wednesday starting at 1 p.m.
