Four of the players who were named to The Telegram's 2009 All-Area Top 11 football team signed letters-of-intent Wednesday to play football at the collegiate level.

Garden City Community College signed two of those four — Calvin Erven of Scott City and David Hawk of Hugoton.

Erven, a 6-0, 225-pounder, played both fullback and linebacker for the Beavers while Hawk, a 210-pounder, was one of the anchors of the Eagles offensive and defensive lines.

Two other Scott City players signed to play elsewhere — Juan Gardea (6-0, 250-pound lineman) at Dodge City, and Dillon Stucky (5-11, 170-pound quarterback/defensive back) at Ottawa University. Stucky missed his senior season with a torn anterior cruciate ligmanent in his knee.

Hugoton's Caleb Gifford, a 6-0, 195-pound fullback/linebacker, who was named The Telegram's Player of the Year, inked with the Hutchinson Blue Dragons.

Another member of The Telegram's Top 11 was Zach Reed of Lakin, who was scheduled to sign with either Bethany or Sterling of the Kansas College Athletic Conference but has not yet made his choice. Lakin had Alex Saenz (5-11, 175, kicker/defensive back) sign with Independence and Fabian Perea (5-10, 180, wide receiver) committed to play at Highland.

South Gray's Zach Hibbert (5-10, 205-pound, linebacker-fullback) signed with Jayhawk Conference champion Fort Scott.

For Hugoton, Coltin Ghumm (5-11, 165-pound, wide receiver/defensive back) signed with Dodge City, while Keithan Martin (5-11, 185-pound running back/linebacker) and Angel Lopez (6-1, 200-pound, defensive end) signed with Garden City. Also making his commitment official to Garden City was Sublette's Chris Villanueva (5-11, 255-pound, offensive/defensive lineman). The Broncbusters also signed a pair of Southwestern Heights standouts — 6-7, 250-pound lineman Cory Ryan and 5-11, 200-pound quarterback Wes Winfrey.

Holcomb lineman Leaton McClelland signed with Northwest Oklahoma State University.
