COFFEYVILLE -- The Garden City Community College Broncbusters got it right this weekend at the Annual Jayhawk Shootout in Coffeyville. The Busters didn't just play unselfish, and found a way to beat a Jayhawk Conference team, Labette County (4-8) on Sunday.

It took them a while, but once Garden City (11-2) awoke after a 9 a.m. start, the Busters used a 12-2 run to help them pull away for a 93-75 win.

This weekend's tournament was a step in the right direction for the Busters both losses this season came against Jayhawk foes Seward County and Independence.

"It's great to beat Otero and Frank Phillips but they're not in our conference", said coach Kris Baumann before the tournament.

Garden City had four players in double figures, led by Tyrone Flemming's 20 points. Chris Roquemore, Corey Claitt and Jordan Ragan each added 17.

"We have a wide variety of scorers on this team, because of (Baumann) recruiting" said Fleming.

The Cardinals Ismar Neto hit two free throws before the game began after the Busters were given a technical foul for dunking during pregame warmup.

Despite shooting 58 percent from the floor, it was far from pretty. Flemming and Tim Brown both picked up technical fouls, marking the Busters third of the game.

"I don't think it's an area of concern, we just get hot headed sometimes", Flemming said.

The fouls added to a disappointing 46 percent from the line.

Garden City's 49-38 halftime lead was never in doubt in the second half. Labette cut the deficit to nine. Mekaile Reed led the Cards with a game high 23 points. Andrija Tintor added 20. The Busters size again proved to be the difference. They outrebounded Labette 55 to 30.

The Busters are idle until January 2 when they visit Colby Community College.
