Lepmets nabs postseason honors

The All-Region VI teams were announced Monday, and Garden City setter Marelle Lepmets was named to the first team All-West Division. The sophomore finished the season ranked 11th in the nation in assists per game at 11.810 in 105 games.

Garden City outside hitter Shawna Ruiz was named to the honorable mention team. Ruiz finished the season 21st in the nation in service aces and kills per game.

She finished with 69 aces and averaged 4.043 kills a game.

Barton County's Ryan Parker was named the Western Division coach of the year. Seward County outside hitter Dan Yang picked up two honors as she was tabbed the Western Division freshman of the year, and the most valuable player.

Sunday, the Broncbusters season came to a close in the quarterfinals of the Region VI tournament on Sunday at the Sports Arena in Hutchinson.

The Lady Broncbusters dropped their first match to Barton County 30-26, 30-15, 30-17. Then in the elimination match, Garden City (24-12) was one game from advancing against Seward County. After dropping Game 1, 19-30, the Lady Broncbusters bounced back to win the next two, 30-28, 30-19, before Seward County took the final two games, 25-30, 6-15.

Barton County came out of the tournament champions, defeating Hutchinson in the title match Monday 30-28, 24-30, 30-18, 30-22.

The win advances the Lady Cougars to the NJCAA Division I National Tournament.
