For the past two years, Daniel Bryant has seen a lot of America.

After being named a Class 6A first-team all-state selection his junior year at Palm Beach Lakes (Fla.) High School, the then-5-foot-8 point guard transferred to North Atlanta Prep for his senior year in hopes of becoming academically eligible at a Division I-A school, going so far as to verbally commit to Georgia Southern.

After the NCAA found out North Atlanta was not an accredited prep school, Bryant made his way to The Patterson School in Patterson, N.C., for one year.

This summer, he found out his SAT scores weren't up to par.

Two days ago, he stepped on campus at Garden City Community College, the final piece in second-year coach Kris Baumann's 2007-2008 recruiting class.

"Daniel Bryant is a great player, and he's a winner," Baumann said. "And he can shoot the brains out of the ball."

Bryant, who has grown to 5-11 since leaving Palm Beach Lakes, teams up with a former high school teammate at GCCC in 6-3 guard Corey Claitt, who transferred to play for Baumann after one year at Jacksonville University.

Baumann recruited both players when he was an assistant coach at Tallahassee Community College.

"I've known (Baumann) for a couple of years, and I know he's a good guy," Bryant said. "With Corey here, that helps me a lot, because he's somebody I've known almost my whole life.

"My goal coming here is simple. I want to play Division I basketball someday and I'm willing to do whatever it takes to do that."

Bryant moved to Garden City on Saturday, and Monday afternoon still hadn't figured out where the Busters locker room was at, but was adapting to his new surroundings, including a scorching heat wave.

"One thing's for sure, it's hot here," Bryant said. "It's nothing that I'm used to, but I'll get accustomed to it eventually."
