TODAY, NOV. 8

"Beauty and the Beast": Garden City Community College's fall musical production, 7:30 p.m. in the theater of the Pauline Joyce Fine Arts Building at GCCC, 801 Campus Drive. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children age 12 and younger. Tickets on sale in advance 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday and 6 to 10 p.m. Sunday at Saffell Library, or one hour before each show in the fine arts lobby.

Bingo: Play begins at 6:30 p.m. at the American Legion, 125 W. Pine St. Open to the public.

MONDAY, NOV. 10

Bingo: Play begins at 7 p.m. at the Elks Lodge, 905 Kansas Plaza. Open to the public.

TUESDAY, NOV. 11

Veteran's Day program: Participants will include B.P.O. Elks Lodge No. 1404, Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary, American Legion Color Guard, Stewart and Joyce Boone, Dolores Mesa and Annette Brungardt, 3 p.m. in the chapel at Garden Valley Retirement Village, 1505 E. "Steps to Startup Workshop": For people interested in starting a new business, 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. and 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on the top floor of the Garden City Community College Student and Community Services Center on campus, 801 Campus Drive. Participation is free, but advance registration should be made by calling 276-9632.

Family Literacy Night: Featuring family reading time and fun, sight word bingo games, and crafts for boys and girls, 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Gertrude Walker Elementary School, 805 Fair St.

Fall Harvest Auction, Soup and Pie Supper: The supper (donation only) and silent auction will begin at 5:30 p.m. at Church of the Brethren, 505 N. Eighth St., with the live auction starting at 7 p.m. A number of homemade items, including pillow cases, a hand-quilted quilt, wood carvings, jelly, candies and more will be available.

SUNDAY, NOV. 16

Retirement party: For Evelyn Pywell, in recognition of her 30 years of being a daycare provider in Sublette, 2 p.m. at the Sublette Southern Baptist Church.

Singles dance: Featuring "Craig Stevens" from 7 to 11 p.m. at the Eagles Lodge, U.S. Highway 83 and Mary Street. Sponsored by Garden City Singles, people attending must be age 21 or older.

Hours at the Finney County Health Department, 919 Zerr Road, are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday (no walk-ins accepted after 5:45 p.m.). Friday hours are 8 a.m. to noon (office is closed the first Friday of each month).

Kan-Be-Healthy, Southwest Kansas WIC Program, maternal and infant, and family planning require appointments by calling the health department (272-3600) or WIC (272-3615).
