Messenger: Need details on flood plain

Published 6/23/2009 in Commentary : Letters to the Editor

I want to thank Duane West for his letter to the editor. It had some very thought-provoking questions. When these questions are answered maybe they could also show the ground elevation at the highest location on the north side of Garden City, the lowest level of the Arkansas River bed. Where are the current water blockage areas that helps slow the water from getting to the river? The people are expected to live with this very expensive addition and they should learn all there is to know about this expansion.

Would the widening of Highway 50 also have to be approved by and through the same process as the acceptance of the flood plain and if not, maybe it is time to set new guidelines? This highway expansion is paid for by your fuel tax dollars and when things happen that is an excessive waste of my tax dollars, whatever kind of tax it is, I am not happy.

LEE MESSENGER,

Garden City
