LEOTI — William J. “Bill” Rasmussen, 62, a former resident of Brush, Colo., died Thursday, Aug. 21, 2008, in Leoti.
He was born May 23, 1946, in Williston, N.D., to Dewel and Norma Rasmussen, and grew up in Grenora, N.D.
On Jan. 9, 1964, he enlisted in the U.S. Army National Guard, serving until his discharge on July 7, 1969.
On April 1, 1967, he married Virginia “Ginger” Rogers in Williston. In 1969, they moved to Brush, where they lived until moving to Leoti earlier this year to be closer to their daughter and her family. Prior to ill health forcing his retirement, he drove a truck for Kula Grain Company for 15 years.
Mr. Rasmussen was a member of the Moose Lodge of Morgan County, Colo. He enjoyed helping members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars No. 3551 clean their weapons and work community service projects, was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed motorcycles. He especially enjoyed going to the coffee shop to spend time with friends.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two daughters, Jeanette Tucke-Miller of Leoti, and Noretta Rasmussen of Jacksonville, Fla.; his mother, of Parker, Colo.; a brother, Gary Rasmussen of Parker; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Hagen Dale Reef, and his father.
A memorial service will begin at 11 a.m. Friday at the Interment Chapel at Brush Memorial Cemetery. The service will conclude at the chapel.
Heer Mortuary & Crematory in Brush is in charge of the arrangements.
