Ida Maye Long
Ida Maye Long, 89, a former resident of Cimarron and Moscow, died Tuesday, May 27, 2008, at Minneola Long Term Care Unit in Minneola, where she had been a resident since 2000.
She was born Sept. 16, 1918, in Gray County, to Thomas James and Mary Edith Kern Meador.
On Oct. 7, 1936, she married Cephas Andrew Long in Grand Junction, Colo. They moved from Grady County, Okla., to Satanta in 1949. He died Dec. 12, 2000. She also was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, John and Leigh Meador; and five sisters, Marian Caldwell, Alta Peacock, Erma Taton, Ethel Withers and Hattie Lashmett.
A homemaker, Mrs. Long had worked for Carl Caldwell as a bookkeeper for Caldwell Garage in Sublette for a number of years. She was a charter member of Free Will Baptist Church of Ulysses, a member of the Federated Club of Moscow, Southern Baptist Church of Satanta and the Women's Missionary in Satanta and Moscow, taught Sunday school, served on the board of the Moscow Senior Center and was a Girls Auxiliary leader.
Survivors include two sons, John Andrew Long of Port Lucie, Fla., and Arthur Thomas Long of Minneola; a daughter, Sevalan Maye Brollier of Moscow; a brother, Roy Meador of Satanta; nine grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church, Moscow, with the Revs. Timothy McCrary and Stan Copeland officiating. Burial will be in Moscow Cemetery. A memorial service will begin at 10 a.m. Monday at Minneola Long Term Care Unit.
Visitation hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday at Haskell County Funeral Home, Sublette. Memorials are suggested to Minneola Long Term Care Unit, in care of the funeral home, Box 607, Sublette, KS 67877.
