Beulah Lou Weber

Beulah Lou Weber, 73, died Thursday, May 8, 2008, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.

She was born Oct. 9, 1934, in Alexandria, S.D, to Lewis A. and Clara D. Krienke Weber. She attended the township elementary school near their farm and graduated in 1952 from Mitchell High School in Mitchell, S.D.

After moving to Waterloo, Iowa, she worked in the business office for Rath Packing Co. In 1954, she returned to Mitchell and attended Dakota Wesleyan University, where she earned a bachelor's degree in 1958. She worked at KORN-TV in Mitchell and later at KXAB-TV in Aberdeen, S.D., while attending Northern State Teacher's College. In 1959, she returned to Raths and worked in the art department producing ad-art design and promotional and in-house brochures and displays. She later returned to Mitchell and taught elementary art and then moved to Royal, Iowa, where she supervised the art department.

In 1967, she moved to Sibley, Iowa, to be the director of production for the Health, Education and Welfare program. In 1969, she became the media coordinator for the public school system in Vermillion, S.D. She earned a master's degree in arts from the University of South Dakota at Vermillion in 1971. She held several other supervising, art design and teaching positions throughout her career, eventually locating in Garden City in 1992 where she was the library media specialist at Abe Hubert Middle School before retiring in 1999.

She was a member of the Christian faith.

Survivors include a sister, Dorothy M. Weber of Woodburn, Ore.; and 19 nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Lewis and LuVern Weber; and three sisters, Wilma Takaiachi, Louise Allen and Anabelle Dortland.

A memorial service is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Bittner Funeral Home in Mitchell, with inurnment in Alexandria, S.D.
