Mildred 'Mitt' Jennings
Mildred "Mitt" Session Jennings, 89, died Monday, April 28, 2008, at her home in Garden City.
She was born May 16, 1918, in Newton, to the Rev. William Wade and Henrietta Swindall Session. She grew up in numerous Kansas towns, including Dodge City, Garden City, Coffeyville and Hugoton, as her father served as a pastor. When she was young, she lived on a farm in Hugoton, loved dressing up and wearing hats and also always helped with the cooking and housework.
On July 27, 1936, she married Villa "Bill" Jennings in Hugoton. In 1941, they moved to Garden City and she began writing a column in the Kansas City Call newspaper. She was a member of Church of God in Christ and enjoyed embroidering, reading, gardening, entertaining guests at her home and spending time with her family.
Her husband died Oct. 15, 1978. She also was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Donald Jennings; a daughter, Virginalee Jennings; five brothers, Charles, William, Bobby, Earnest and Eliot Session; two sisters, Pearl Jennings and Fannie Thompson; and a great-grandson, Kenneth Brown.
Survivors include two sons, Mitcheal and Kenneth Jennings, and two daughters, Loretta Jennings and Patricia McIntyre, all of Garden City; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Valley View Cemetery, Garden City, with the Revs. Matthew Bradshaw and Lucille Luckey officiating.
