DIGHTON -- Kent D. McMillen, 68, died Saturday, April 26, 2008, in Lane County.

He was born May 11, 1939, in Lane County, to William Dale and Blanche Smith McMillen. He graduated from Dighton High School in 1958.

Mr. McMillen attended mechanics school in Kansas City, Mo., and also worked for General Motors for a short time. He returned to Lane County and was a lifelong farmer-stockman.

He enjoyed working on cars and farm machinery, took youth groups on ski trips, was a trap shooter, and enjoyed cribbage, playing bridge, chess and dancing in his earlier years. His special interest was taking his grandchildren and other children on trips to the farm and their athletic activities. He was a member of First Christian Church of Dighton.

On Aug. 16, 1959, he married Linda Hyames in Dighton. She survives. Other survivors include three daughters, Michelle Reffner of Fort Collins, Colo., Korinna Parker of Hays, and Lisa Paine of Van Alstyne, Texas; a son, Devin McMillen of Ellinwood; a brother, John McMillen of Wichita; a sister, Joyce Sherwin of Wichita; 14 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday at First Christian Church, Dighton, with the Rev. Howard Bever officiating. Burial will be in Dighton Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation hours are 5 to 8 p.m. today, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 9 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Boomhower Funeral Home, Dighton. Condolences may be sent at garnandfh@sbcglobal.net. Memorials are suggested to First Christian Church, in care of the funeral home.
