Alice Susan Carter

ULYSSES -- Alice Susan Carter, 89, of Ulysses, died Sunday, March 9, 2008, at Western Plains Medical Center in Dodge City.

She was born Feb. 7, 1919, in Lamar, Colo., to Ray and Charity Geer Jarboe.

On June 12, 1938, she married Glenn Nathan Carter in Iuka. He died Feb. 22, 1986. She also was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, James Jarboe.

Mrs. Carter worked as a nurse aide at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses for a number of years. She was a member of Celebration Baptist Church, Ulysses.

Survivors include a son, Robert Glenn Carter of rural Ulysses; a daughter, Joyce Carter of Catoosa, Okla.; three brothers, Albert Jarboe of Claremore, Okla., and Vernon and Donald Jarboe, both of Topeka; four grandchildren; and a great-grandson.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Celebration Baptist Church, Ulysses, officiated by Jacob Allee and Sam Bynum, ministers. Burial will be in Ulysses Cemetery.

Visitation is until 8 tonight at Grant County Funeral Home, Ulysses. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society, in care of the funeral home, 218 S. Main, Ulysses, KS 67880.
