Dan Alan Smith Jr.

Dan Alan Smith Jr., 35, of Abilene, Texas, died Sunday, July 6, 2008, at University Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas, from injuries suffered in a motorcycle accident in Abilene.

He was born Jan. 27, 1972, in Abilene, Kan., to Dan A. Sr. and Mary Lou Drummond Smith. He grew up in the Kansas towns of Abilene, Talmage and Solomon, attending the local schools and graduating from high school.

Mr. Smith had moved to Texas 12 years ago, where he owned and operated his own tire and repair shop, Universal Tire, in Abilene.

Survivors include his children, Tevin, Tyler and Roxanne, all of Greeley, Colo., and Destiny, Eric Michael, Gabriel and Jimmy, all of Abilene, Texas; his mother, Mary Frances Drummond Viacaino of Garden City; his stepmother, Kathleen Smith of Solomon; four sisters, Jill Stroda of Garden City, Julie Rose of Salina, and Tiffany Adams and Loreli Bockenstette, both of Denver; two brothers, Michael Smith of Wichita, and Aaron Bockenstette of Denver; and his grandparents, Jack Drummond of Abilene, Kan., and John and Jeanie Clements of El Dorado. He was preceded in death by his father; a brother, Gordon Smith; and his grandparents, Luella Drummond, and Ray and Nellie Smith.

Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Carlson-Becker Funeral Home in Solomon, with the Rev. Carson Johnson officiating. Burial will be at Prairie Mound Cemetery in Solomon.

Visitation hours are from 1 p.m. Friday until service time Saturday at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent at www.mbcfh.com. Memorial contributions in Mr. Smith's name are suggested to a memorial fund to assist with his children's education and the funeral expenses, in care of the funeral home, 208 W. Fourth, Solomon, KS 67480.
