Margie Darlene Koehn

SCOTT CITY -- Margie Darlene Unruh Koehn, 76, died Tuesday, July 8, 2008, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center in Wichita, following a massive stroke.

She was born Sept. 29, 1931, in McPherson, to Frank and Elvina (Unruh) Unruh, and spent her childhood years in McPherson County. Most of her formal education was received at Happy Hollow School. She was baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite at Lone Tree the last week of November 1944.

On Jan. 20, 1952, she married Wilbert Koehn at Lone Tree Mennonite Church in Galva, in a ceremony officiated by her father, a minister. They lived in McPherson County until moving in September 1953 to northeast Wichita County in western Kansas, where they built their home, which they moved into a year later. She enjoyed being a homemaker and her husband's partner for more than 56 years on the farm.

Known as having a quiet demeanor, Mrs. Koehn had a heart given to hospitality, often having impromptu Sunday dinner for company, and her personal mission was to send letters, cards and newspaper clippings to a host of friends, shut-ins and missionaries around the world.

In addition to her husband, survivors include three sons, Merle and Dale Koehn, both of Marienthal, and Stan Koehn of Wellton, Ariz.; two daughters, Joanne Yost of Wrens, Ga., and Holly Giesbrecht of Mesa, Wash.; four sisters, Minnie Becker of Hesston, Julia Koehn of Homeworth, Ohio, Ruby Koehn of Moundridge, and Lois Miller of Kidron, Ohio; a brother, Sandord Unruh of Okolona, Miss.; 21 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Scott Mennonite Church in Pence, officiated by Richard Koehn, Charles Nightengale and Franklin Koehn. Burial will be at Scott Mennonite Church Cemetery in Pence.

Visitation is until 3 p.m. today at Price & Sons Funeral Home in Scott City and 5 to 8 p.m. today at Scott Mennonite Church in Pence. Condolences may be sent at www.priceandsons.com or pricefh@wbsnet.org. Memorials are suggested to Scott Mennonite Church at Pence, in care of the funeral home, 401 S. Washington St., Scott City, KS 67871.
