Joan Harms, 92, died Wednesday, May 7, 2008, at her home in Garden City.

She was born March 16, 1916, in Garden City, to Orland W. and Leah Joanna Lightner Terhune. A lifetime resident of Garden City, she attended Garden City schools and Garden City Community College.

On Sept. 6, 1936, she married Harry Harms in Garden City. A homemaker, she helped her husband with the family farming and also worked for eight years at Ranch House Ceramics. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and being a grandmother. A member of the Christian faith, she also was a member of Harmony EHU and the Senior Center of Finney County and a charter member and "Collegian" of the Women of the Moose.

Her husband died Feb. 10, 1983. She also was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Frank and Phil Terhune; and a grandson.

Survivors include two daughters, H. Deanne Peat and Barbara J. Schaffer, both of Garden City; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City, with the Rev. Paul Klaus officiating. A private family graveside service will take place at a later date at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City.

There will be no visitation. Condolences may be sent at garnandfh@sbcglobal.net. Memorials to the Joan Harms Memorial Fund may be sent in care of the funeral home, 412 N. Seventh St., Garden City, KS 67846.
