ULYSSES -- Ernest Holt, 61, died Friday, April 25, 2008, at his home in Hurricane, Utah.

He was born Sept. 1, 1946, in Dodge City, to Harold and Margaret Golliher Holt.

Mr. Holt worked for Popejoy Construction in Ulysses and retired from St. George Steel in St. George, Utah. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam conflict, was a member of the American Legion and enjoyed working on cars.

On Sept. 1, 1971, he married Thada Sharpe in Scott City. She survives. Other survivors include a son, Edward Holt of Lawrence; a daughter, Teresa Salyer of Hurricane; his mother, of Ulysses; a brother, Ronald Holt of Muscatine, Iowa; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father.

Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Ulysses Cemetery, with the Rev. Bill Harrold officiating. Military graveside rites will be conducted by Dexter D. Harbour American Legion Post No. 79.

Memorials are suggested to Dexter D. Harbour American Legion Post No. 79, in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave., Ulysses, KS 67880.
