Ross Earl Brent

Ross Earl Brent, 95, died Monday, April 28, 2008, in Beloit.

He was born Aug. 7, 1912, in Osborne County, to W. Earl and Caroline Dieckman Brent.

In 1933, he married Louise Dibble. They farmed north of Alton until her death in 1996.

Mr. Brent was a member of Alton United Methodist Church and was active in Christian education for many years. During the years of the Great Depression, he taught at rural schools at Round Hill, Prairie Home and Grant Center. Always maintaining a respect and love for the land and for the farm on which he was born, he was an early advocate of soil conservation methods. In their later years, he and his wife were privileged to participate in farm tours to various locations including the Soviet Union, Alaska, Southeast Asia and Europe.

Survivors include a son, Lanny Brent of Springfield, Mo.; two daughters, Carol Fogo of Johnson City, and Margery Prickett of Marlew, Okla.; eight grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Funeral was to be 10 this morning at Alton United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Rob Harper officiating. Burial will be in Sumner Cemetery, Alton.
