Margaret Joan Cameron

LAKIN -- Margaret Joan Osten Cameron, 80, of Lakin, died Monday, April 7, 2008, at High Plains Retirement Village in Lakin.

She was born Aug. 1, 1927, in Dunedin, New Zealand, to Richard and Lydia Robertson Osten.

On April 30, 1946, she and Donald Cameron, an American soldier serving in the Pacific, were married in Wellington, New Zealand. After a short time together in New Zealand, they came to America where they lived in Washington, California and Arizona. From the summer of 1947 until the fall of 2006, they lived in eastern Colorado in Pritchett, Las Animas and La Junta.

Her husband died Jan. 20, 1997. She also was preceded in death by a son, Edward Jake Cameron, and her parents. Survivors include a son, Karl David Cameron of Lakin; a brother, William Osten of Auckland, New Zealand; three grandsons; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Peacock Memorial Chapel in La Junta, officiated by Jim Price and Tim Chung, ministers.¬ Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery in La Junta.

Visitation hours are 2 to 5 p.m. Friday at Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home in La Junta. Online condolences may be made at www.peacock-larsen.com. Memorials are suggested to the High Plains Retirement Village Activity Fund, 607 Court Place, Lakin, KS 67860 or in care of the funeral home, 401 Raton Ave., La Junta, CO¬ 81050.

Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home & Arkansas Valley Crematory in La Junta is in charge of arrangements.
