Jesse L. Thomas
KISMET -- Jesse L. Thomas, 89, of Kismet, died Saturday, Feb. 16, 2008, from injuries suffered in an automobile accident in Seward County.
He was born March 26, 1918, in Climax Springs, to David L. and Opal I. Baty Thomas. In the early 1920s, the family moved from Missouri to the Kismet area.
A farmer, Mr. Thomas served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the Christian Church in Sublette and the Elks Lodge in Liberal.
Survivors include a daughter, Peggy L. Thomas of Hurst, Texas; a sister, Geraldine Brier of Liberal; two grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Christina Thomas Yunker Ruby; and a grandson, Bryon Giles.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Christian Church, Sublette, officiated by David Erwin, minister. Burial will be at Plains Cemetery in Plains, with military graveside services conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard.
Friends may sign the registry from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and Friday at Haskell County Funeral Home, Sublette. Memorials are suggested to Arkalon Park in Liberal, in care of the funeral home, Box 607, Sublette, KS 67877.
