Fred O. Patton

SCOTT CITY -- Fred O. Patton, 97, died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2008, at Park Place Apartments in Scott City.

He was born April 26, 1910, in Logan County, to William Pinkney and Metisha Isabelle Farr Patton.

Mr. Patton moved to Denver in 1930 and to Scott City in 1945.

He farmed in Scott County until 1962 when he went to work for the Scott County Road Department.

In 1975, he went to work for the City of Scott City as superintendent of parks, retiring after 20 years at the age of 85.

He was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Scott City.

On May 1, 1931, he married Rita Workman in Scott City. She died in 1949. On Aug. 29, 1966, he married Helen E. Canelake in Garden City. She died May 16, 2000, in Scott City.

He also was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Florence Green; five brothers, Theodore, Elvie "E.R.," Oscar, Otis and Elmer Patton; a stepson, Terry; and a stepdaughter, Connie.

Survivors include two stepsons, Phillip Whiteman of Denver, and L. Dean Angeles of New Orleans; two sisters, Hazel Browning and Eva Nickel, both of Scott City; two brothers, Paul Patton of Cheney, and Art Patton of Grand Rapids, Minn.; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Scott City, with the Rev. Don Martin officiating. Burial will be in Scott County Cemetery, Scott City.

Visitation hours are until 8 tonight, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Scott City. Condolences may be sent at www.priceandsons.com or pricefh@wbsnet.org. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. Luke's Episcopal Church at Scott City, in care of the funeral home, 401 S. Washington St., Scott City, KS 67871.
