Roy Dargel

Roy Vernon Dargel, 81, of Greensburg, died Tuesday, June 23, 2009, in Greensburg.

He was born Feb. 19, 1928, to Fredrich and Bessie M. Sypher Dargel.

A lifetime resident of Kiowa County, Mr. Dargel had retired from Northern Natural Gas Co. He was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars, both at Greensburg, and served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean conflict.

On Nov. 21, 1954, he married Irene Maxine Thomas in Clayton, N.M. She survives. Other survivors include three sons, Thomas Trent of Oklahoma City, Carl Dargel of Murrieta, Calif., and Jim Dargel of Hacienda Heights, Calif.; a daughter, Delpha "Del" Smith of Wichita; a brother, Calvin Moore of Kansas City, Kan.; a sister, Mary Stagaard of Garden City; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter.

No formal services are planned, although a memorial service is pending.

Memorials are suggested to Hospice of the Prairie, in care of Fleener Funeral Home, 514 S. Main St., Greensburg, KS 67054.
