Preston Harne

Preston Lee Harne, 74, died Sunday, June 21, 2009, at his home in Garden City.

He was born Aug. 8, 1934, in Hagerstown, Md., to Leo and Pearl Mundy Harne.

A resident of Garden City since May 2009, moving from Buffalo, N.Y., Mr. Harne was a manager of three roller skating rinks, where he taught several students figures and dance, before his retirement. Many of his students went on to receive national skating awards. He was a member of the Methodist Church in Amistad, N.M., and was a U.S. Army sergeant, having served in the Korean War. He enjoyed his family, teaching skating and collecting Department 56 Villages.

On April 1, 1965, he married Francis Rose Keesler in Annapolis, Md. She died Feb. 18, 2004, in Amistad. He also was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Robert Harne.

Survivors include two daughters, Dianne Kim Sutterfield of Garden City, and Robyn Ann Swan of Cheektowaga, N.Y.; a son, Eric Douglas Harne of Fairhaven, Mass.; a brother, Don Harne of Fredricksburg, Md.; three grandsons; and three granddaughters.

A memorial service will be held at a later date at the Hauser family ranch in Amistad.

Memorials are suggested to St. Catherine Hospice, in care of Price & Sons Funeral Home, 620 N. Main St., Garden City, KS 67846.
