Patricia Hansen

Patricia Hansen, 57, Topeka, died Tuesday, June 23, 2009, at a Topeka hospital.

She was born Sept. 16, 1951, in Syracuse, to Ervin and Venita Tucker Helm. She graduated from Greeley County High School in 1969 and Emporia State Teachers College in 1972. She later received a master's degree in counseling from Fort Hays State University.

She taught English and speech at Eastern Heights High School, and then at Greeley County High School. She later was a counselor in Topeka at Robinson Middle School, Auburn Elementary and Landon Middle School. She retired in 2008.

On Oct. 16, 1976, she married Neal Hansen. He survives. Other survivors include two daughters, Monica Luis DeJesus of Olathe and Stephanie Hansen of Lenexa; a son, Bryan Hansen of Kansas City, Mo.; a sister, Janice Harlow of Hutchinson; and two grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

A memorial service is at 10 a.m. Friday at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel in Topeka. Inurnment will follow in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home in Topeka.
