Cletus Albert Simon
SYRACUSE -- Cletus Albert Simon, 82, died Saturday, July 26, 2008, at Hamilton County Hospital in Syracuse.
He was born Oct. 18, 1925, in St. Marks, to Robert Peter and Ida Martha Seiler Simon. He grew up in St. Marks, attending a country school there and graduating from eighth grade. He worked odd jobs, including at bakeries and helping his uncles on the farm, until marrying Alberta T. Schauf on Oct. 28, 1947, in Garden Plain. After their marriage, they moved to Syracuse, where he farmed and ranched northwest of Syracuse. In August 1977, they moved into Syracuse.
Mr. Simon was a member of St. Raphael's Catholic Church, Knights Of Columbus, St. Raphael Catholic Church Building Committee, Hospital Board, Farm Bureau Board and Syracuse Saddle Club and was a former member of the Moose Lodge, where he had earned a Pilgrim Award, all in Syracuse. He enjoyed attending the weekly cattle sales, rodeos, ranch rodeos and going coyote hunting, but especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
In addition to his wife, other survivors include five sons, John R., Donald C., David L., Larry G. and Keith E. Simon, all of Syracuse; four daughters, Barbara J. Standley and Connie L. Mai, both of Garden City, and Julia A. Parks and Nancy J. Simon, both of Syracuse; four brothers, Dennis Simon of Dodge City, Earl and Elmer Simon, both of Augusta, and Kenny Simon of Douglass; four sisters, Joann Heimerman of Wichita, Doris Proctor and Mary Anderson, both of Augusta, and Betty Carroll of Albany, Wis.; 22 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Cletus J. Simon Jr.; two brothers, Leroy and Eugene Simon; two sisters, Ethel Mackay and Thelma Hoge; and a grandson, Eric Mai.
Wake service will be 6:30 p.m. MDT Tuesday at St. Raphael's Catholic Church, Syracuse. Funeral will be 10 a.m. MDT Wednesday at the church. Burial will follow at Syracuse Cemetery.
Visitation hours are until 8 MDT tonight and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. MDT Tuesday at Fellers Funeral Home, Syracuse. Condolences may be sent at fellersfh@yahoo.com.
