Walter Horn

Walter James Horn

DIGHTON -- Walter James Horn, 84, died Friday, July 18, 2008, at Lane County Hospital in Dighton.

He was born Jan. 6, 1924, in Baxter County, Ark., to Robert B. and Tessie E. Fugate Horn.

A Kansas resident since 1945, moving from Arkansas, Mr. Horn had been a highway maintenance supervisor or the State of Kansas for more than 30 years. He had lived in Dighton since 1976 and was a member of First Christian Church, Lions Club and the Joy Center, all at Dighton. He loved to make black walnut ice cream for the community to be served at the Joy Center.

On April 13, 1952, he married Clara Michaelis. She died Jan. 8, 1993. In October 1995, he married Lottie Burnett in Dighton. She survives. Other survivors include a brother, William E. Horn of Great Bend; a sister, Emogene Sikes of Viola, Ark.; and numerous nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents; five sisters, Julie Hurst, Gretchen, Ruby, Beatrice and Adalee; a brother, Orville Horn; a nephew, Donne Sikes; and a niece, Rose Cotter.

Funeral was to be 10:30 this morning at First Christian Church, Dighton, with the Rev. Howard Bever officiating. Burial will be in Utica Cemetery, Utica.

Memorials are suggested to the Joy Center, in care of Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Box 96, Ness City, KS 67560.
