Kathy Butler

FRIEND -- Kathy Butler, 50, died Sunday, June 29, 2008, at her home in Friend.

She was born May 19, 1958, in Plainview, Texas, to George Hyrum and Gae Maurice Chandler Griffith. She grew up and attended schools in Garden City.

Mrs. Butler moved from Garden City to Friend in 1982, moved to Dalhart, Texas in 1989 and returned to Friend in 2001. She was manager of the Dalhart Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, owner and operator of the Dalhart Airport Café, owner and operator of the Snack Bar at Dalhart Bowl and also worked as a cook at Community Day Care No. 1 in Garden City. She attended Prairie View Church of the Brethren, Friend.

On Nov. 6, 2002, she married Brett K. Butler in Friend. He survives. Other survivors include her children, Felicia Melendez and Clifton Mesa, both of Colorado Springs, Colo., Danielle Fuentes and Tessa Griffith, both of Garden City, and T.A. Butler of Friend; her mother, Gae Chandler of West Plains, Mo.; two brothers, David Griffith and Bruce Drussel, both of West Plains; and 12 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father; a brother, Randle Griffith; a stepson, Chris Butler; and two grandchildren, Jason Fuentes and Allysa Long.

A private family graveside service was today at Prairie View Church of the Brethren Cemetery in Friend, with the Rev. Jon Tuttle officiating.
