Mary Pauline Hayzlett

SYRACUSE -- Mary Pauline Hayzlett, 87, of Haysville and formerly of Syracuse, died Saturday, June 28, 2008, in Haysville.

She was born Aug. 10, 1920, in Selkirk, to Elzy G. and Mary "Mollie" Lonberger Burch. She grew up on a farm in Selkirk, attended grade school in rural Selkirk and attended Leoti High School.

On Oct. 4, 1940, she married Arthur Thomas Hayzlett in Tribune. They made their home in Syracuse and she worked as a cook at Hamilton County Hospital for 16 years before retiring in 1992. She had been a Syracuse resident until moving to Haysville in 2005. She was a member of Syracuse Bible Baptist Church, and enjoyed embroidery, cooking, baking and hanging clothes on the clothes line, but especially enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, family and friends.

Her husband preceded her in death as did her parents; four brothers, Alva Marvin Burch, Arthur Lee Burch, George William Burch and Glenn LeRoy Burch; and a sister, Rosy June Crittenden.

Survivors include a son, Arthur L. Hayzlet of Wichita; three daughters, Mary Louise Selvage of Haysville, Elaine Feldman of Meade, and Joy Hayzlett of Syracuse; two brothers, Harley Eugene Burch of Leoti, and Paul Franklin Burch of Blackwell, Okla.; two sisters, Daisy Fern Conley of Russell, and Eunice Mae Ellis of Bixby, Okla.; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. MDT Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church, Syracuse. Burial will follow at Syracuse Cemetery.

Visitation hours are noon to 8 p.m. MDT Tuesday at Fellers Funeral Home & Monuments, Syracuse. Condolences may be sent at fellersfh@yahoo.com. Memorials to the Mary Hayzlett Memorial Fund may be sent in care of the funeral home, Box 1253, Syracuse, KS 67878.
