Wilma A. Hartzell

DIGHTON -- Wilma A. Hartzell, 95, died Saturday, April 26, 2008, at Red Rose Inn in Cassville, Mo.

She was born July 29, 1912, in WaKeeney, to Alvah Charles and Freida Korth McStay. She attended schools in WaKeeney.

For most of her adult life, Mrs. Hartzell lived in Kansas before moving to Missouri in 1981. From the early 1960s to the mid-1970s, she worked at the Burgerteria in Scott City and later became manager of the Daylight Donuts Shop. She loved farm life and enjoyed flowers, gardening and canning. Known as a woman of deep faith, she attended church services until her health worsened.

On Dec. 22, 1928, she married Clifford Walker in WaKeeney. In November 1967, she married Larry Hartzell in Topeka. He died in 1987. She also was preceded in death by her parents; a son, William Clifford Walker; two brothers, Harold and Earl McStay; a sister, Erma McCoy; two grandchildren; a great-grandson; and her first husband, who died Oct. 26, 1984.

Survivors include a son, Charles Robert Walker of Dighton; two daughters, Patricia Crow of Cassville, and Angeline Van Horne of Anthony; a sister, Philena Turner of Wichita; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; one great-great-great-grandchild; and seven great-great-stepgrandchildren.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Dighton Memorial Cemetery, with the Rev. Howard Bever officiating.

There will be no visitation. Condolences may be sent at garnandfh@sbcglobal.net. Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association or Multiple Sclerosis Society, both in care of Boomhower Funeral Home, 145 N. Wichita, Dighton, KS 67839.
