Gary Appling

Gary Pat Appling, 53, died Friday, June 19, 2009, at his home in Lubbock, Texas.

He was born Dec. 12, 1955, in Plainview, Texas, to Pat and Verna Appling. He graduated from Ulysses High School in 1974, from Texas Tech University in 1978 with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree and later earned his certified public accountant certification from Fort Hays State University in Hays.

Mr. Appling was self-employed, along with his brother, as Appling Bros. Construction in Lubbock. He previously had managed several lumber companies in Kansas, Colorado and Texas. He enjoyed his friends and family, being helpful and passionate debate about Christianity. He recently had attended his 35th class reunion and had reacquainted himself with many of his old friends.

Survivors include his parents, of Lubbock; a sister, Nancy Appling of Carlsbad, N.M.; a brother, Don Paul Appling of Lubbock; a niece; a nephew; and numerous aunts and uncles.

Services were Wednesday at Englunds Chapel in Slaton, Texas. Burial was at Englewood Cemetery in Slaton. Memorials may be sent to the donor's choice.
