Vera A. Schmidt

Vera A. Schmidt, 70, of Colwich, died Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2008, in Wichita.

She was born July 6, 1938, in Montezuma, to Emil and Eva Koehn.

A former Garden City resident, Mrs. Schmidt had worked as a cook at the schools in Garden City.

Survivors include two daughters, Trina Wynn of Colwich, and Diana Strunk of Wichita; four grandchildren; three brothers, Wilbur Koehn of Cimarron, and Rodney and Eldon Koehn, both of Montezuma; and two sisters, Wanda Schmidt and Laura Powell, both of Montezuma. She was preceded in death by a sister, Jolene Burns.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at First Mennonite Brethren Church in Wichita. A second service will begin at 10 a.m. Monday at Gospel Fellowship Church in Montezuma, followed by burial in Montezuma. Bent Warkentin, pastor, will officiate.

Visitation is until 9 tonight at Wulf-Ast Mortuary Chapel, Colwich. Memorials are suggested to the First Mennonite Brethren Church Building Fund or Back Pack for Kids (in care of the Kansas Food Bank).
