Gene Stephens

JOHNSON CITY-- Gene Stephens, 75, died Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2008, at Stanton County Hospital in Johnson City.

He was born Dec. 28, 1932, in Goodland, to Chester and Althea Lamb Stephens. He attended schools in Goodland and Colby, earning his G.E.D. while living in Burlington, Colo.

Mr. Stephens served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1956 and then worked as a plumber in Burlington before moving to Johnson City. He worked at Ulysses Irrigation Pipe and retired from Kroy Industries, where he worked on an assembly line making plastic pipe. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Ulysses.

On Dec. 15, 1968, he married Connie Brabham in Kanorado. She survives. Other survivors include a son, Damon, of Leoti; a daughter, Donna Stephens of Garden City; a brother, Jerry Lamb Stephens; four grandchildren; and numerous aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial service will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at Fields Memorial Wesleyan Church, Johnson City, with the Rev. Dave Kaufman officiating. Inurnment will follow at Stanton County Cemetery in Johnson City, with military rites conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 3684.
