Freda Schwartz

DIGHTON — Freda L. Schwartz, 93, died Sunday, June 21, 2009, at Brighton Gardens in Scottsdale, Ariz.

She was born March 30, 1916, in Rush Center, to Emmanuel C. and Emma Erb Sell.

On Jan. 3, 1937, she married Benjamin Schwartz in Bazine. After he retired from farming, they traveled extensively and especially enjoyed fishing at various lakes in Kansas and Colorado. They spent many winters in Mesa, Ariz., where she was always mastering a new type of craft project.

A long-time resident of Lane County, Mrs. Schwartz moved from Dighton to Arizona in 1999. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Dighton. A homemaker, she enjoyed sewing and had made numerous quilts by hand, including one for each grandchild. She also loved cooking for her entire family on special occasions.

Her husband died Jan. 29, 1994. She also was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Judith Krebs; a brother, Roy Sell; and a sister, Effie Brack.

Survivors include two daughters, Lila Morris of Topeka, and Sandra Roberts of Scottsdale; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be 3 p.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church of Dighton, with the Rev. Warren Hett officiating. Burial will be at Dighton Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation hours are 9 a.m. to noon Friday at Boomhower Funeral Home, Dighton. Condolences may be sent at garnandfh@sbcglobal.net. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of the Valley, in care of the funeral home.
