Elda Rogers

SYRACUSE — Elda Elizabeth Rogers, 97, died Saturday, June 27, 2009, at Seasons Of Life Living Center in Syracuse.

She was born March 22, 1912, in Inman, to Peter and Adolphene Knacksted Dyck. When she was young, the family moved to the Menno community, where she attended Hill Country School.

A resident of southeast Hamilton County for most of her life, she married Wayne Leonard Rogers on March 16, 1929, in Garden City. They made their home in the Menno community, where they farmed.

Mrs. Rogers attended several churches throughout her life, but was mostly involved with the Methodist Church of Syracuse. She was a member of Lieurance Music Club at the Methodist Church and a former member of the Grandmothers Club. She enjoyed playing music on her piano, quilting, family singing, cooking, her home, garage sales, studying the Bible, and especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She moved to Syracuse in 1977 and had resided at Seasons Of Life Living Center since June 2001.

Survivors include two sons, Donald W. Rogers of Syracuse, and Arland G. Rogers of Kendall; two daughters, Shirley A. Rogers of Dodge City, and Penny L. Carrithers of Wichita; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Edgar and Elmer Dyck; and a sister, Edna Dyck.

Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. MDT Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church, Syracuse. Burial will follow at Syracuse Cemetery.

Visitation hours are noon to 7 p.m. MDT Tuesday at Fellers Funeral Home & Monuments, Syracuse. Condolences may be sent at fellersfh@yahoo.com. Memorials are suggested to Seasons Of Life Living Center, in care of the funeral home, Box 1253, Syracuse, KS 67878.
