Clyde Belt

LAKIN — Clyde O. Belt, 78, died Tuesday, June 30, 2009, at Kearny County Hospital in Lakin.

He was born Jan. 11, 1931, in Belpre, to Clifford and Daisy Herbert Belt. He grew up in Belpre, graduating from Belpre High School.

Mr. Belt served in the U.S. Navy from 1951 to 1955. He moved to Lakin in 1958 and was in the service station business from 1958 to 1977 and then was in the auto parts business for 20 years. Involved in the daily operations, with his son, Rick, at Rick's Lumber & Rental, he was known for being able to work on and fix anything. He liked to golf, dance, and party with family and friends and was a former member of the Lakin Jaycees.

On Dec. 18, 1955, he married Billie Grace Rogers in Clayton, N.M. She died Oct. 21, 2005. He also was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Rob Belt; and a brother, Lloyd Belt.

On Jan. 26, 2009, he married Sharon Little in Las Vegas. She survives. Other survivors include a son, Rick Belt of Ulysses; a brother, Alvin Belt of Liberal; three sisters, Norma Kephart of Macksville, Ila Mae Mead of Belpre, and Luella Cardiff of Springfield, Colo.; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Celebrations of his life will begin at 6 tonight at the home of Rick and Janie Belt, 900 N. Joyce St. in Ulysses, and at 6 p.m. Friday at the home of Clyde and Sharon Belt, 502 Eastridge Road in Lakin. The family will have a private graveside service at Lakin Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to Kearny County Emergency Medical Services or Kearny County Hospital, both in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave., Ulysses, KS 67880.
