Betty Durrant

Betty J. Durrant, 86, of Wichita, died Friday, Feb. 5, 2010, at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice in Wichita.

She was born May 29, 1923, in Garden City, to Henry and Maud Van Winkle Eichhorn. She grew up in Garden City, graduated from Garden City High School in 1940 and received a master's degree in education from Wichita State University.

Mrs. Durrant moved to Scott City in 1943 and to Wichita in 1963, working as an elementary school teacher for the Wichita school district for many years. She was a member of St. James Episcopal Church of Wichita, Daughters of the American Revolution, D.A.M.E.S., the Humane Society and PETA and volunteered for the Nature Center in Wichita. She enjoyed playing bridge, yard work and gardening.

Survivors include two sons, Steven and Richard Durrant, both of Dodge City; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.

A private family service was to take place today at St. Thomas' Episcopal Church in Garden City, with the Rev. Canon F. David Titus officiating. Burial was to follow at Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.
