P. June Meyer

P. June Meyer, 83, of Emporia, died Thursday, Nov. 13, 2008, at Newman Regional Health in Emporia.

She was born Oct. 5, 1925, in Dodge City, to Clyde E. and Pearl V. Medley Boner.

On Sept. 2, 1947, she married Henry Meyer Jr. He died Nov. 30, 1990, in Ulysses. She also was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Lovene Smith; and a brother, Billy Dean Alpers.

She married Ivan Cunningham and they later were divorced.

Survivors include a daughter, Vicky L. Allen of Emporia; four brothers, A.L. "Art" Alpers of Millbrae, Calif., C.A. "Bud" Boner of Glenhaven, Calif., Melvin Boner of East Wenatche, Wash., and John Alpers of Dodge City; two sisters, Dora Mae Broburg of Midvale, Utah, and Patsy Robertson of Montezuma; and two granddaughters. Mrs. Meyer had served as postmaster in Big Bow for 29 years, retiring 27 years ago. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and American Legion, both at Ulysses, and Ball-McColm Post No. 5 American Legion at Emporia.

Funeral was to be 10 this morning at First Christian Church, Emporia, with the Rev. Bob Colrick officiating. Burial will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Grant County Cemetery in Ulysses.

The family will meet with friends at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the First Methodist Church in Ulysses. Memorials are suggested to the Ulysses American Legion, in care of Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, 605 State St., Emporia, KS 66801.
