Fred G. Dietz

Fred G. Dietz, 97, of WaKeeney, died Thursday, Oct. 9, 2008, at Trego County Lemke Memorial Hospital Long Term Care in WaKeeney.

He was born June 18, 1911, in rural Trego County, to Henry G. and Anna Elizabeth Schmidt Dietz. He graduated from Trego Community High School in 1931.

Mr. Dietz had owned and operated a grocery store before his retirement.

On Nov. 19, 1939, he married Esther Phares in Hays. She died Nov. 15, 2004. He also was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Solomon, Henry and Julius Dietz; and two sisters, Mollie Klaric and Martha Knapp.

Survivors include a son, Dennis Dietz of Polk City, Iowa; a daughter, Vicki Krehbiel of Dighton; a brother, David Dietz of Waconia, Minn.; a sister, Clara Deines of Lincoln, Neb.; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in WaKeeney. Burial will be in WaKeeney City Cemetery.

Visitation hours are 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Schmitt Funeral Home, WaKeeney. Memorials are suggested to Bethlehem Lutheran Church or Trego County Lemke Memorial Hospital Long Term Care, both in care of the funeral home, 336 N. 12th, WaKeeney, KS 67672.
