Agnes Holden

SYRACUSE — Agnes Elizabeth Helm Holdren, 82, died Thursday, Jan. 28, 2010, at Seasons Of Life Living Center in Syracuse.

She was born June 18, 1927, in Syracuse, to John C. and Minnie Volland Helm. She grew up in Syracuse and graduated from Syracuse High School in 1945.

A lifetime resident of Hamilton County, Mrs. Holdren spent many years cooking at schools in Coolidge and Syracuse. She also was employed at the Holly Telephone Office and was a secretary and owner of Holdren's Carpet. She retired in 1995. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Syracuse, and enjoyed collecting plates of all of the United States, country music, including her visit to the Grand Old Opry, and going to horse races in New Mexico. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

On Aug. 17, 1947, she married Robert Paul Holdren in Syracuse. He died Jan. 13, 2001. She also was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Ed, George, Clifford, Bob and Grover Helm; a sister, Alice Helm; three sisters-in-law, Beth, Helen and Grace Helm; and a brother-in-law, Billy Holdren.

Survivors include a son, Dale D. Holdren of Syracuse; a brother, Bill Helm of Junction City; four sisters-in-law, Mary and Sybil Helm, both of Syracuse, and Doreen Holdren Vendickson and Jean Bailey, both of Moses Lake, Wash.; a brother-in-law, Loren Bailey of Moses Lake; three grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be 1:30 p.m. MST Monday at First Presbyterian Church, Syracuse, followed by burial at Coolidge Cemetery.

Visitation hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. MST Monday at Fellers Funeral Home, Syracuse. Condolences may be sent at fellersfh@yahoo.com. Memorials are suggested to Seasons Of Life Living Center, Coolidge Alumni or the VIP Sunflower Square, all in care of the funeral home, Box 1253, Syracuse, KS 67878.
