A Lakin teenager died this morning as the result of injuries sustained in a one-vehicle crash Sunday in Wichita County.

William McCreary, 17, was driving a 1997 Ford pickup at 11 p.m. Sunday on Kansas Highway 25, about 14 miles south of Leoti, when he lost control on ice around a curve, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.

The truck slid sideways into the north ditch, overturned and rolled, coming to rest on its top in a field.

McCreary was taken to the Wichita County Health Center, where he was pronounced dead at 12:52 a.m. today.

He was not wearing a seat belt, according to KHP.

teen dies in accident

Some of us in Sharon Springs went on a mission trip to New York last summer with Will and are shocked and saddened by his passing. May he rest in peace. Prayers to his family.

teen dies in accident

My thoughts and prayers go out to this family and the community of Lakin. In the last year, the community of Ness City/Ransom lost 3 teenagers-- each in one-vehicle accidents. These deaths affected the families of the teens, their classmates, and the the whole community. Lakin is a strong community, and I'm sure that its citizens will come together to provide strength and support to this family. God Bless.
