Area residents can find plenty to do in Finney County this weekend, including a gun show, bull riding competition, taco dinner and art show.
At the Finney County Fairgrounds on Saturday, bull riding fans can catch the competition at the Smith Bull Riding Productions Winter Bull Riding Series.
The event will be held at 7 p.m., with doors opening at 5 p.m. at the Finney County Fairgrounds Horse Palace, 401 S. Taylor. Tickets are $10 per person and children 10 and younger are free. Tickets are on sale at D & H Homes, 4103 E. U.S. Highway 50, and Crazy House, 2510 Highway 50.
According to SBRP, southwest Kansas, Colorado, Oklahoma, New Mexico and Texas are delivering their best bull riders and bulls to the competition.
Also at the fairgrounds on Saturday and again on Sunday, the Sand & Sage Rifle and Pistol Club Collectors Show will be on display at the Finney County Exhibition Building.
The show, which will run 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, will feature antiques, coins, stamps, firearms, ammunition, and arts and crafts. Vendors will come from Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Colorado, Nebraska and New Mexico.
On Saturday, the First Christian Church in Garden City will have it's 11th annual Navajo Taco Dinner in the church basement, 306 N. Seventh St.
The meal will include authentic Navajo Indian fry bread topped with beef, beans and condiments, along with homemade pie and a beverage at a cost of $6. Take-out or dine-in service will be offered from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the church office during regular business hours. Tickets at the door will cost $7.
A live auction of antiques and collectibles will begin at 6 p.m. Auction items will include a hand-quilted "Rambling Sunflower Meets Jamestown" quilt.
Last year's event raised more than $11,000, which was given back in outreach to community organizations such as Russell Child Development Center, Family Crisis Center, Habitat for Humanity, Emmaus House and others.
