The case of a USD 457 teacher who was arrested on allegations that she stole three school laptops has been referred back to the Garden City Police Department.
Claudia Pinon, 36, 2004 N. Ninth St., a Spanish teacher at GCHS and New Outlook Academy, was arrested Monday on allegations of felony theft, theft of services and deprivation of property.
Finney County Attorney John Wheeler said no charges have been filed in the case and that it was sent back to police for more information.
Garden City Police Sgt. Michael Reagle said the school district contacted police about the three missing laptops at GCHS, valued at $3,297. After an investigation, police were led to believe Pinon took the laptops assigned to her classroom without permission.
Reagle said one of the laptops showed up at a repair shop in Liberal.
Rick Atha, USD 457 superintendent, said earlier this week that no disciplinary action has been taken against Pinon at this time, and that any action the district might take is pending the completion of the criminal investigation.
