An arraignment has been postponed for a Hugoton man accused of killing his mother.

Michael Maestas Jr., 25, was scheduled to have appeared in court Thursday in Stevens County. His arraignment has been pushed to Thursday, staff at the Stevens County District Court said Friday.

Maestas is charged with first-degree murder in the Aug. 1, 2009, stabbing death of his mother, Lorenza Maestas, in her home in Hugoton.

On Aug. 1, the Stevens County Sheriff's Office responded to a 911 call from a man who identified himself as Michael Maestas Jr.

He said he had stabbed his mother, according to the sheriff's office. Officers arrived at the scene and found Lorenza Maestas, 52, dead from stab wounds.
