The trial of a Hugoton man accused of murdering his mother has been rescheduled.

Michael Maestas Jr., 25, is charged with first-degree murder in the stabbing death of his mother, Lorenza Maestas.

His trial was scheduled for April 7 to 9, but April 9 is a furlough date in the courts. The trial is now set for May 4 to 6. A pre-trial conference is scheduled for April 29 in Stevens County District Court.

On Aug. 1, 2009, the Stevens County Sheriff's Office responded to a 911 call from a man who identified himself as Michael Maestas and said he had stabbed his mother.

Lorenza Maestas, 52, was pronounced dead at her home, 100 S. Jackson St., Hugoton, according to a report from the Stevens County Sheriff's Office.
