Garden City officials may create a committee to oversee the implementation of the city's recently-adopted comprehensive plan at their Tuesday public meeting.
Garden City Mayor Nancy Harness made the request to organize a citizen-based committee to follow through with goals outlined in documents containing about 1,000 ideas generated by residents back in early February.
The new comprehensive plan adopted by city officials outlines expected outcomes for development of the city over the next 10 years, including the revitalization of downtown, an enhanced quality of life, economic development, the improvement of parks and recreation and the beautification of the community's gateways.
Planning and Community Development Director Kaleb Kentner said the new group — possibly made of citizens for each of the city's five major goals and representatives from various city advisory boards — could provide analysis of issues in the comprehensive plan, provide feedback on whether the intent of the comprehensive plan is being met, and track the timeline of events and accomplishments of the plan.
The group also could give presentations to civic organizations, neighborhoods and help schedule efforts to accomplish specific goals in the plan, according to Kentner.
The Tuesday public meeting begins at 1 p.m. at the City Administrative Center, 301 N. Eighth St.
Commissioners and city staff also will be having a pre-meeting at 11 a.m. to review financing development. The pre-meeting is also open to the public.
