Political signs are being placed in yards around the area, calling for citizens to elect or re-elect county leaders in the Aug. 5 primaries.
In the primary election, there is a Republican ballot and a Democrat ballot. All of the Republicans who filed to run for office will be on the Republican ballot, and those Democrats who filed to run for office will be listed on the Democratic ballot.
The deadline for voter registration is July 21 to vote in the primaries. Contact local election offices for details regarding where polling places are located and for information about advance ballots.
Here is a look at who voters are going to see campaigning for county offices in the area:
For the Kansas Senate:
Incumbent Tim Huelskamp, R-Fowler, has filed for Kansas Senate District 38, along with Laura Mead, D-Dodge City. District 38 covers Ford, Gray, Meade, Clark and Seward counties, as well as the southwestern part of Haskell County.
Incumbent Stephen R. Morris, R-Hugoton, has filed for District 39, along with Harold Starr, R-Garden City. District 39 includes Hamilton, Stanton, Morton, Kearny, Grant, Stevens and Finney counties, as well the northeast part of Gray county.
Incumbent, Ralph Ostmeyer, R-Grinnell, has filed for District 40, which includes Greeley, Wichita, Scott and Lane counties, along with the rest of northwest Kansas.
For the Kansas House of Representatives:
Incumbent Larry R. Powell, R-Garden City, has filed for District 117, which includes Hodgeman, Edwards, Finney, Ness and Pawnee counties.
Incumbent Virginia Beamer, R-Oakley, has filed for District 118. Don Hineman from Lane County also filed. He is a Republican. District 118 includes Gove, Lake, Logan, Rush, Trego, Wallace, Wichita and Ness counties.
Incumbent Gary Hayzlett, R-Lakin, has filed for District 122, which includes Greeley, Hamilton, Kearny, Scott, Finney and Haskell counties.
Incumbent Jeff Whitham, R-Garden City, has filed for District 123, which includes Garden City.
Incumbent Bill Light, R-Rolla, and Gene Schwein of Ulysses, also a Republican, have filed for District 124, which includes Grant, Morton, Stanton, Stevens, Haskell and Seward counties.

For commissioner district three, Bill Lower, a Republican incumbent, has filed. Raymond Brown, Democrat, filed for county commissioner district two.
Sharon Hinkle, a Republican incumbent, has filed for clerk. There are two candidates for sheriff: Incumbent Larry Phoenix and Troy Briggs, both Republicans. There are also two candidates for county attorney: Lynn Koehn and Bryce Haverkamp.
